Rescheduled Fishing Tournaments

Outlaw Outdoors reported The Sweet Sixteen Sunday Series Tournament is still on go for this upcoming Sunday, January 27th. The water is going to be high and there are limited ramps.

The Rat-L-Trap Open has been rescheduled for February 24th out of Umphrey Pavilion. If you have already entered, you will keep the same boat number you were originally assigned. If you have a conflict with the new date and need a refund, send an email to [email protected]. You will receive a confirmation email saying your refund is being processed.

The January Bass Champs Rayburn event has been rescheduled because of extreme flooding. The new tournament date for Lake Sam Rayburn is Saturday, July 13th, at Umphrey Pavilion. More information can be found at basschamps.com.

Additional information on cancellations or rescheduling will be passed along as soon as the information crosses our desks.

The Beaumont Enterprise reported heavy rains and high winds lashed an already swollen Sam Rayburn Reservoir on Saturday, leading to lowland flooding and treacherous driving conditions.

Highway crews periodically closed the Texas 147 bridge that spans the  lake to clear debris deposited by white-capped waves over the roadway.

A number of camping and boat ramp facilities are closed at Sam Rayburn Reservoir and B.A. Steinhagen/Dam B due to the recent rainfall.

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers news release reports that current high lake levels have resulted in additional facility closures at Sam Rayburn Reservoir related to recent rainfall events.

At this time, boat ramps are closed at Hanks Creek Campground, Hanks Creek Day Use Area, Twin Dikes Park, Mill Creek Park, Rayburn Park, San Augustine Park, Marion Ferry Park, Monterey Park, and Etoile Park. Hanks Creek Park, Mill Creek Park, Rayburn Park and San Augustine Park are also closed for camping. Additional facilities including boat ramps will be closed as conditions warrant.

Currently, the only open U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s managed boat ramps are located at Ralph McAlister Park and Twin Dikes Public (near Umphrey’s Family Pavilion). Additional camping and/or boat launching opportunities may be found at Cassells-Boykin Park, Powell Park Marina, Jackson Hill Park and Marina, Shirley Creek Park and Marina, and the Sam Rayburn Resort and Marina. Please contact each facility prior to visiting to ensure availability. Not all additionally listed locations provide boat launching opportunities at this time.

Current closure lists for Sam Rayburn Reservoir and Town Bluff/Dam B/B.A. Steinhagen are at http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/lake/lakefacilities.htm or by calling the Sam Rayburn Project Office at 409-384-5716 or Town Bluff/Dam B/B.A. Steinhagen at 409-429-3491 (M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 23)

GOOD. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.39 feet above pool. Fishing patterns are consistent. The best bite has been in 8-14 feet on ledges and humps with a big worm on a Texas rig or Carolina rig. Fishing around the old timber as fish are using it for structure. Very little grass or lily pads so far. Crappie and catfish are moving shallow and deep as they spawn. The magic depth has been 4-12 feet with minnows under corks and around trees on the bedding fish. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service.
